Course Summary
This two-and-a-half-day training is designed for detectives and investigators specializing in homicide and crimes against persons. The course provides a structured, step-by-step approach to homicide investigations, beginning with the initial call and extending through crime scene management, evidence handling, suspect development, and case preparation for court.
Participants will gain critical insights into homicide classifications, offender motivations, suicides, equivocal or staged death scenes, and “no body” prosecutions. Special attention will also be given to investigating unidentified human remains.
The program emphasizes proper documentation, report writing, courtroom preparation, and effective collaboration with coroners/medical examiners and prosecutors. Additionally, participants will explore the latest investigative tools and technologies, including advanced cell phone analytics, data management, and the impact of social media on modern investigations.
