Course Summary

Students receive training in all aspects of the Custody & Control system including empty hands control, self-defense, baton skills, weapon retention, hand cuffing, edge weapons defense, and ground fighting skills.

Course Requirements

Given the physically demanding nature of this course students are required to complete the WLEA Physical Fitness Assessment to the same standards as Peace Officer Basic on the morning of the first day in order to continue training. To receive certification students must complete the Custody & Control Physical Skills Test with a minimum standard of 80%, a written exam with a minimum performance standard of 80%, as well as a 20 minute instructor presentation. In order to receive your certificate, you MUST also complete the General Instructor Development course, which is in conjunction with Custody and Control Instructor Certification. The certification is valid with WLEA for a 2 year period.

Special Instructions

The uniform for this course is BDU pants and an appropriate tee-shirt. Students may wear shoes on the mats that have been approved by WLEA staff and are only worn when on the mats. This is an O.E.T. scholarshipped course and is offered free of charge to officers certified in the state of Wyoming. Please note, this course does have a No Show Fee. Cancellations must be received 2 business days before the start of the course. After that time, the No Show Fee may be charged.
