BASIC PROGRAMS

WLEA offers Basic Training courses in a professional, cutting edge environment, for those attempting to attain P.O.S.T. certification as a Peace Officer, Detention Officer, Public Safety Communications Officer, or Deputy Coroner in the state of Wyoming.  Applicants must either be employees of a Wyoming law enforcement agency or WLEA Pre-Service students.

PEACE OFFICER BASIC

The Peace Officer Basic Course is a 14 week, 605 hour, intensive curriculum designed to meet the specifications of Wyoming P.O.S.T. for certification as a Peace Officer in the State of Wyoming.  Students are trained using a variety of training methods from traditional lecture to dynamic practicals in subjects including Constitutional Law, Statutes, Investigations, Patrol Procedures, Building Searches, Interview & Interrogation, Custody & Control, Firearms, and Emergency Vehicle Operations.

PRE-SERVICE

PROGRAM

The WLEA Pre-Service Program provides qualified applicants the opportunity to gain certified entry-level law enforcement training at their own expense; making them sought after in the marketplace among potential law enforcement employers.  Peace Officer Basic, Detention Officer Basic, and Public Safety Communications Personnel Basic courses are available. 

DETENTION OFFICER

BASIC

The Detention Officer Basic Course is an 8 week, 298 hour, intensive curriculum designed to meet the specifications of Wyoming P.O.S.T. for certification as a Detention Officer in the State of Wyoming.  Students are trained using a variety of training methods from traditional lecture to dynamic practicals in subjects including Constitutional Law, Statutes, P.R.E.A., Inmate Supervision, Inmate Classification, Cell/Body Searches, Interpersonal Communications, Interview & Interrogation, Custody & Control, Firearms, and Emergency Vehicle Operations.

PHYSICAL FITNESS

STANDARDS

Qualified Peace Officer and Detention Officer students must complete the WLEA Basic Training Fitness Assessment and meet minimum Fitness Standards on the first day of training in order to continue the course.

PUBLIC SAFETY

COMMUNICATIONS

OFFICER BASIC

The Public Safety Communications Officer Basic Course is a 2 week, 79 hour, curriculum designed to meet the specifications of Wyoming P.O.S.T. for certification as a Public Safety Communications Officer in the State of Wyoming.  Students are trained in subjects including Constitutional Law, Civil Liability, NCIC/WCJIN, Radio and Telephone Procedures, Interpersonal Communications, and Stress Management.

CORONERS

BASIC

The Coroners Basic Course is a 1 week, 43 hour, curriculum designed to meet the specifications of Wyoming P.O.S.T. for certification as a Deputy Coroner in the State of Wyoming.  Students are trained in subjects including Jurisdictional Issues, Legal Issues, Death Investigations, Autopsy, Chemical Testing, Toxicology, Courtroom Testimony, and Death Notifications.
