DETAILS: Deputy Vinson was shot and killed in Big Canyon, on Rattlesnake Creek near Elk Mountain, by members of an outlaw gang that had attempted to rob a Union Pacific train. "Big Nose" George Parrott, a member of the gang was caught nearly two years later. After being returned to Rawlins, Parrott attempted to escape from jail. He was apprehended and a group of Rawlins' citizens lynched him on Front Street at the present location of the Union Pacific Depot.
