OFFICER: DON SIMPSON        

DEPARTMENT: Wyoming Game and Fish Department

DATE OF INCIDENT: October 31, 1945 

DETAILS: Deputy Warden Don Simpson along with Deputy Warden Bill Lakanen was found shot to death in the Sierra Madre mountains southwest of Rawlins.  Warden Simpson was investigating illegal beaver trapping in the area at the time of the shooting.  The suspect in the double homicide, John Malten, was never apprehended.  It is believed Malten burned in a cabin fire at the crime scene.
