OFFICER: EDWARD PHILLIPS

DATE OF INCIDENT: March 4, 1955

DETAILS: Deputy Phillips died from a gun shot wound he had received from fugitive Charles Billings.  Deputy Phillips was conducting a search for Billings in the Green River railroad yards at the time of the shooting.  Billings had been involved earlier in another homicide.  Billings was shot and killed later the same day by a Union Pacific special agent.
