DETAILS: Patroman Petrie was shot and almost instantly killed by one of three "hard lookers" whom he was in the act of arresting and taking back to the police department. The murder took place at the point where the Colorado and Southwestern railroad crosses Carey Avenue. Governor Carey offered a $500 reward for the arrest and conviction of the murderer; however, the murderer was never apprehended. Officer Petrie had been employed only five days.
