OFFICER: WILLIAM S. MCPHERREN

DATE OF INCIDENT: October 7, 1921

DETAILS: Undersheriff McPherren was a member of a posse that was attempting to arrest two subjects that were operating an illegal liquor still approximately seven miles north of Sheridan.  A gun battle developed at the scene and Undersheriff McPherren was shot and killed.  At the time, no one was able to determine who fired the shot that killed McPherren.  One of the subjects was later charged with the crime, however he was found not guilty at this trial.
