OFFICER: JACK NORWOOD JERNIGAN

DATE OF INCIDENT: March 4, 1954 

DETAILS: Officer Jernigan and two Air Force policemen answered a disturbance call at a local restaurant.  A suspect in the disturbance pulled a semi-automatic handgun and attempted to take the officers' weapons.  Officer Jernigan pushed the Air Force policemen to the floor, withdrew and fired several shots.  The suspect also fired his weapon.  Both Officer Jernigan and the suspect were killed in the exchange of gunfire.
