DETAILS: Sheriff Bath was killed by a suspect known as George H. Sommers. The murder took place by Woods Landing (Albany County), Wyoming which is located about 22 miles from Laramie. Sommers was pursued by a posse mounted on horseback, but escaped around the north end of Elk Mountain, through Rawlins and was never apprehended. Sheriff Bath had ridden to the area where he was killed to investigate Sommers as a suspicious person.
