DATE OF INCIDENT: March 16, 1939 

DETAILS:  Sheriff Baker and Powell Chief of Police Charles Lewis were shot and killed as they attempted to arrest Park County jail escapee Earl Durand as they approached his residence near Powell.  Durand was later shot and killed by Powell townspeople after he had attempted to rob a Powell bank.
