JURISDICTION OF CORONERS - 7 hours
A block of instruction which is designed to orient the student coroners to the
methods, practices and procedures in for coroners as outlined in the Wyoming
Statutes. Additional focus examines the duties, jurisdictions, and
responsibilities of state law enforcement agencies.

INVESTIGATIONS - 30.5 hours
A series of instructional units designed to introduce the coroner to scientific
aids and examinations as they pertain to physical evidence and cause of death
determination. Also, covered are general investigative techniques and their
application to death investigations.
1. Asphyxia & Autoerotic Death - 1 hour
2. Autopsy - 1 hour
3. Child Abuse Death and Sudden Infant Death Syndrome - 2 hours
4. Death Scene Investigation - 12 hours
5. Forensic Odontology - 2 hours
6. Gunshot/Blunt & Sharp Injuries - 6.5 hours
7. Identification of Dead - 1 hour
8. Identification of Skeletal Remains - 2 hours
9. Time of Death Determination - 1 hour
10. Toxicology - 2 hours
PROFESSIONAL SKILLS - 3.5 hours
A block of instruction designed to examine and improve the student coroner’s
interpersonal communication skills. The coroner is introduced to various oral,
written, and behavioral methods and techniques necessary for effective
performance in a variety of interaction situations.
1. Courtroom Testimony - 2 hours
2. Death Notification - 1.5 hours
ADMINISTRATIVE MATTERS - 2 hours
Units of time set aside to perform the necessary administrative tasks associated
with the training function.
1. Orientation - .5 hours
